Whoring myself to prospective employers, I should imagine.

Me too.
Tiresome isn't it?

Indeed.
There's a hell of a lot of crap out there. I would happily do general admin stuff, but I fear prospective employers will take one look at my employment history and degree and consign me to the 'if we employ him he'll fuck off six months later' heap.

That's a tricky one. Have you looked at short term contracts so you can get some dosh in and take more time to take a permanent job you'd like?

(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:02, Reply)
I have applied for a couple of short term positions already.
Heard zilch from either of them. Also registered with a few employment agencies, and uploaded my CV onto a few sites. The bastard is, most employers want experience in whatever particular line of work they're advertising, so even if I could probably do the job with a minimal amount of training, it's not even worth applying because there will always be 20 people ahead of me with the requisite experience.

At least that's not quite as much of a brick wall as demanding a degree for no fucking reason.

(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:09, Reply)
True, but it's still a pain in the arse.
Although I lucked into my previous line of work despite having zero experience in that particular field. Proof, surely, that I'm quite capable of branching out into something new?

you'd think so wouldn't you?
Such is life, why take a punt?

Still unemployed?
When will the North East see your brilliance and hire you!

I don't know, Apey.
Hopefully within the next couple of weeks?

Good luck, i feel your pain

Thanks.
My cousin has just informed me on Facebook that her husband, a civil engineer, has been unemployed for 18 months. They're getting so pissed off they're considering moving back to Switzerland where the situation isn't quite so bad yet.

Chin up mate, I've always found getting a job is as much about luck and being in the right place at the right time as anything else
you can maximise your exposure to this potential break simply by making your your CV is everywhere.
(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:09, Reply)
This I plan to do.
I'll be interested to hear what the Jobcentre has to say this afternoon. And also in seeing if they'll be any fucking help whatsoever.
(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:12, Reply)
No, none in the least

(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:26, Reply)
This is what I'm afraid of.
And I used to work for the fuckers.
(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:33, Reply)
It's the most thoroughly depressing experience of my life so far

(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:44, Reply)
It's the North East
unless he's got 5 year's experience in car wheel extraction and block raising, he'll have a job. Or rather, he won't.
(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:08, Reply)
Liverpool isn't in the North East

(, Mon 31 Oct 2011, 15:09, Reply)
It's the North.
As is everybody and everything beyond Enfield.
