Ignore Tangled, he is a leafeater and therefore grumpy
I took the missus to see Matilda in January, it's excellent.

I am choosing to believe you.
Just so I don't get a total downer on my Christmas present before it's even happened.

Being a Tim Minchin fan will help
The songs cracked me up. Retains the spirit of the book which was a favourite when I was a kid.

That's pretty much all I hoped for.
I know it's not my ideal choice of entertainment, but I assumed it would be passable and not hateful given what it's based on and who is behind it.

Given my (unsurprising) predisposition towards musical theatre
you're not going to love it as much as I did. But the missus probably will, and you won't hate it, and you'll have boyfriend points for taking her. And what do boyfriend points make?

Prizes!

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:41, Reply)
Yeah, sexy prizes

Did you see South Park the other week?
The whole premise was that musicals are dreamt up by men to get blowjobs, and men only take their partners to see them to get blowjobs.

I didn't mean to piss on your chips

but it is for kids and it is a musical
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:32, Reply)
Well I don't hate all musicals
but I do hate being surrounded by kids, so this could be problematic.

And actually i can't think of a musical that I don't hate now I've said that either, bugger.

Oliver!
I liked Oliver!, so there's that.

And Buddy, I liked that, but as that's just Buddy Holly songs, it would have been pretty hard to not to like that, unless you don't like Buddy Holly, and then, really, you'd only have yourself to blame for seeing it in the first place.

I get a slating every time I admit this, but I liked Moulin Rouge
Also, Oliver!, Les Miserables, Pirates Of Penzance, etc
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:40, Reply)
Moulin Rouge was fucking shit
I have no problem with the idea, just the execution. Awful.

Someone really should have mentioned Chicago by now. Stage, not screen, although that was perfectly entertaining.

OK, NOW I'm going to the shops
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
Chicago wasn't bad, not great though.

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
there is nothing wrong with this

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
I love Buddy Holly
But that show is dire.
And Lionel Bart is an awful composer. On the plus side, Matilda is probably better than them.
(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 13:42, Reply)
I think I was about 15 when I saw it,
And it seemed great to me at the time. That's no guarantee that I woudln't find it shit if I saw it again now, I accept.
