simple answer: HTC Sync is a big pile of poo.
I basically gave up using it, althought it did 'work' for me it was just not worth the bother. I handle syncing music by connetcing as a removable drive (you should get the option when you plug in the USB) and using synctoy(free) to sync the music folder on the sd card to a folder on my PC. Would that work for you or are you dead set on htc sync?
