I went into a carpet shop today
I've been going to places like that to aclimatise myself to the idea of owning and decorating a house. until now it's not been too bad, but carpet shops are even more boring than I remember.

And they smell of dull rainy saturday afternoons from my childhood

I've never had to buy anything very expensive
I've always just got second hand stuff, and it's more practical than anything. Surely if its your house then you decide whether it's the wrong thing or not?

Unfortunately I've been brainwashed by my mother that everything must match to some degree.
I try and keep it low key and with a shabby hippy vibe. When I moved into this house the lady before me left the curtains. I switched the bedroom and living room curtains around and based everything else on them.

I know the bedroom in the new place
has some very 70s red patterned carpet that I might just keep there out of perversity. Should I design the whole rest of the place around that?
