In my experience "chav" = "wanker". It's a state of mind.
And I've spent most of my adult life working with folk who could credibly be called working-class.

I've also noticed that when students behave that way, they get nothing like as much stick for it.

There are plenty of working class folk who I would never class as chavs.
But chavs are the terminally unemployed and ignorant.
