I like that blue colour in the 'contrasting' ideas section.I think that orange would be a bit much for me. But then again, I painted my bedroom hot pink, so what would I know?

I think I've now learnedthat you can paint things a fairly neutral colour, and change your highlight accessories every few months to get a bit of bright colour.
I haven't done that, but it's what I've learned.
