I'm looking forward to hearing his new excuse for getting up in the middle of the night for a bottle of red.

I thought I heard wine burglars so I thought i should check and then i wasn't sure if the bottle was lying right and it might have started to go off?

Sadly, I used to know an alcoholic who used to use a very similar excuse to go downstairs for a drink in the middle of the night.
I worked with him and his wife, she was forever marvelling at his "amazing hearing - he can hear the dogs trying to get out and I can't hear a single thing"
