I think it's from reading too much of this Japanese fantasy stuff where every action is fated and meaningful, but the weird coincidences that led to it (non of which are particularly interesting btw) made it feel like I was a character in a badly plotted story with awkward reasons for interacting with another character. Thus, for me, the tenner is like Chekov's gun and will be important in a later act.

You'll be wandering about somewhere
and you will have an absolute, desperate, life-or-death need for a ten pound note. It will be a week before pay day and you'll be just about to cry, then you'll remember that kindly old lady and rush to the car to find the money.
Then later you'll go to her address to thank her, and the neighbours will say there hasn't been anyone living there since the old lady died before xmas. There will be an ethereal light in the sky as you walk away from the front door, and you'll feel a warm hand upon your shoulder.
