You don't read Peter and the Wolf
You listen to it.
It introduces children (or you) to leitmotif - a theme for each character.

The Jimmy Smith version doesn't have any narration though
He improvises on the themes.

i fucking loved it when I was a kid
we had a record I played all the time.

Kids do love it.
Prokofiev knew what he was doing alright.
You were brought up in a middle class household then.

a weird mix between middle class
and working class. Middle class enough to not be allowed guns/water pistols and not watch ITV, working class enough to live off crispy pancakes

Lazy middle class

Isn't it some old russian bok?

(, Sun 11 Mar 2012, 17:39, Reply)
I think it's based on a russian folk tale
but I could be wrong

All written by Prokofiev, I think.

That sounds like an insult of epic proportions, you massive Prokofiev.

(, Sun 11 Mar 2012, 17:44, Reply)
I wouldn't be insulted by that
He was an ace composer.
You know some of his stuff, even if you think you don't.
