I've been marathon-watching Breaking Bad recently
Love it.

Have introduced Crow to Life on Mars/Ashes To Ashes
He is pleased that there is minimal Bowie despite first thoughts. It's nice to watch them again, I think I missed most of the second series of AtA.

Life on Mars would be so much better
without that whinging moraliser Sam in it.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:37, Reply)
I don't know, I liked Sam. I think a lot of the humour came from him being a stick in the mud.
I just find the whole "OMG IT'S MY MUM LET ME CALL YOU MY MUM EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T KNOW ME" thing (in both shows) absolutely mortifying. And not even in a good way.

Agreed.
It was a weak point in the plot. As was the sexual chemistry between Gene and Alex. Please...

Nooooooo
It's great! They do drag it out a little though...

It was a poorly conceived plot device to hook the female viewers IMHO
And he never got to knob her.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:49, Reply)
I quite liked his character...
...more so than I did the American version. Seen it? The ending is very twee but a good twist.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:43, Reply)
No, I don't watch American remakes.

(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:44, Reply)
Well you're not missing that much
Their Annie is much hotter and can actually act, but Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt just doesn't work.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:47, Reply)
Does that mean you haven't seen The Departed?

(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:51, Reply)
I didn't know that was a remake
but, actually, no I haven't.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:52, Reply)
Aye, remake of 'Internal Affairs'
It is an excellent series though
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:56, Reply)
in the end matt damon shoots everyone in the head
but dicaprio has sent a tape of evidence to his wife so damon's fucked and gets killed
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:57, Reply)
I'm never going to watch the American version.
I cannot imagine Gene Hunt not being from Manchester. It'd be wrong.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:45, Reply)
The whole
"Hey, why youse bein' a woise goiy" 70s American cop thing is a total turn off for me. I can't bear watching films like French Connection for this reason, let alone a remake of a series that I quite like in which they appear to have missed all of the subtleties that made it watchable.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:47, Reply)
Why do 70s American cops have Birmingham accents?

(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:49, Reply)
That's the accent they had in the 70s
don't you know nothing?
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:51, Reply)
GOD HE'S SO STUPID.

(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:52, Reply)
I'm embarrassed for him, Monty.
EMBARRASSED
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:53, Reply)
I think we all are.
This is most uncomfortable.

Taxi Driver wouldn't be the same without the classic quote
"Do ya feel luckoi punk, well does yeow?"
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:58, Reply)
"Is youm talking to me?"
"Oi can't see nowone else 'ere"

Is taxi driver the Luc Besson film
Where Bruce Willis drives his space taxi around trying to catch the German bank robbers?
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 15:02, Reply)
Imagine it's Gene's American cousin
Issac.
(, Fri 20 Apr 2012, 14:48, Reply)
Hello you
I wanted to talk to you about something but I can't remember what it was, now. Are you doing a Masters at KCL next year?
