You work in IT for any length of time, you experience a lot of idiots.
Human nature being what it is, you'll start assuming the other person is an idiot through bitter experience however good your initial intentions were.

You work in the police force, you are going to make similar assumptions about the demographic you encounter on a daily basis. It might not be right, it might not be fair, but it is human nature.
