My problem with it is that it's effectively banning somebody you don't like from part of the site. It's not just from replying to your posts, it's from replying to every post beneath you, since that's also how the old ignore worked. The difference being, you're not only stopping yourself from seeing what they write, which is fine, you're stopping them from seeing all these other replies.
That sort of punishment tactic ought to be mod-only, in my opinion.

Not only does he not only stop himself from seeing her posts, it means she can't defend herself to the rest of the forum if he decides to start slagging her off. She can't see it and wouldn't be able to reply if she had.
It's too powerful for the typical user.

saying stuff like "oooh, Chompy just said this about you, swipe", or "Swipe just this about you, Chompy". We see that happening with even the old ignore.
It's a shit idea.

Oh how shocking! Oh my goodness gracious! Oh I had no idea someone would do something like that on this site.
How terribly beastly!

It's the other person not being able to defend themselves. You can see that's an issue, surely.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:10, Reply)

Funnily enough, I don't care.
The only problem I can see is that you couldn't see if someone was say posting links to your real name, but that could be dealt with by better modding.

I vow to protect the innocent at all times.

You're capable of dealing with it, fine. But there'll be a lot of pricks who can't and will use it to stop people from seeing potentially a lot of content.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:18, Reply)

because some other people who use this site can't be trusted to act in a reasonable manner, rather than the people who run this site coming up with an easier solution that will avoid them having to deal with lots of whiny gazzes?
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:19, Reply)

I can see your point. I just think this is a heavy handed way of going about it.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:21, Reply)

having mods clearly hasn't solved the problem, so they had to try something else.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:22, Reply)

but blank them out, not even the name of the poster. That way you can see the responses but not the annoying person (and if you're ignoring more than one person you don't even know which one it is).

it ought to require a mod to get involved.

Just wait it out and in a week see if your fears have panned out.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:17, Reply)

To be honest it wont make much difference to me.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:22, Reply)

But I still think you should unignore Swipe and pay her the money back. If you do, I'll invite you to a BBQ.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:31, Reply)

The rest of your point I entirely agree with. Swipe does have a point.

I actually think LiC's solution is probably the best one.
( , Thu 2 Aug 2012, 11:22, Reply)

it's all happening on QOTW, and that has mods, so your solution has already been shown not to work.
