I must admit, I wouldn't personally precook chicken for a barbecue
I'd just cook it properly on the barbecue, but some things can be pre-cooked

I tend to, as it's the way I was shown when I was younger
Also, it means I can have other things on the BBQ whilst the chicken is in the oven, then it only needs 10 minutes on the BBQ.

I microwave the chicken for 3 minutes to cook the meat closest to the bone, then do the rest of the cooking outside whilst drinking beer

the problem is you have to pre-cook with whatever marinade you have on.
which spoils the flavour of some things. Things like ribs and sausages you can boil, cool, marinade, then barbecue. Bad idea with chicken. But, meh, swings and paedophiles.

I only ever tend to do BBQ and hot & spicy flavour marinades, which cook nicely
Although I will concede that BBQ would work better if it was done entirely on the grill itself.
