Regardless of our issues we are still incredibly well off. The fact that the unfortunates are in another country isn't really relevant
a person is a person regardless of nationality and we should feel compassion for them.

I respect your right to your opinion, but I disagree with it.
We, as a country, don't have a vote in their country. Even some of their own people don't have a vote in their own country. They even have a space program, which I believe is bigger than our own. It's the equivilent to giving your mate money for food when they've got a bigger telly than you.
