And I've not even caught a live alien properly yet. I just panic and grenade them if they're too close.

The base is easy enough.
It's linear and the worst surprise I had was aggroing six Chryssalids within a double move of my squad.

Chryssalids are easy
you don't have to use cover when fighting them so just put your men in a semi circle more than one move away from them and they'll just run right up to you and not attack.
Mix in a few other aliens and they're a problem.
