I've just realised, the weekend of the 2nd Feb is going to be a truly awesome weekend of sports
Not only do you have the opening six nations matches, but you've got the Superbowl too, and I'll be at my parents with their sky box.

are you watching the aussie open that's on at the moment?
My mum keeps trying to get me to watch it, I have no idea how to follow it.
(, Tue 15 Jan 2013, 12:47, Reply)
No, I'm not that interested in Tennis.

(, Tue 15 Jan 2013, 12:50, Reply)
I don't understand it.
mum's been trying to get me to watch it since I was little. no interest though.

what don't you understand?
I like a bit of tennis now and then, although admit I haven't watched any of the aussie open.

the scoring system confuses me. as do the "faults"
It's just from a lack of interest. I"m not interested, so I don't bother trying to learn as much.
(, Tue 15 Jan 2013, 12:56, Reply)
fair enough,
I won't bore you with it if you're not interested. The scoring system is unnecessarily stupid though I agree. It could just as easily go 1, 2, 3,
(, Tue 15 Jan 2013, 12:58, Reply)
Basically it's the first person to 4 points in each game, but you have to win by a clear point, which is where the advantage comes in.
Then it's the first to 6 games in a set, but again, you need to win by a clear game.

Then it's the first to either 2 or 3 sets depending on th tournament and if you're a bloke or a bird.

Simple really.

Ball has to stay inside the lines and not hit the net.
Points go 0-15-30-40-game. You have to win a game by two points, so if both are on 40, you go to duece-advantage(player)-game. It's not hard.
(, Tue 15 Jan 2013, 13:00, Reply)
someone once told me that it was 0-15-30-45-game.
And that 40 is only used if it's closer than a point, but so that 45 indicates advantage in a close game. Something about old indoor tennis using clocks to Mark scores. Although this is almost definitely bullshit.

There seems to be some evidence for it
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennis_score#History

THe evidence being a wikipedia page covered in "Citation needed"?
Come on Chompy, you're better than this.

I didn't say it was conclusive evidence.
