I don't think I've ever been given a day off because of the weather.
I once trudged to school in heavy snow, only to be told it was shut.
If I did have the day off I'd get dinner ready in the morning, then muck about with the kids and then nip for a pint in the afternoon.

we used to have to listen to local radio
for the list of closed schools. It was the most tense and exciting time of radio listening ever

I can't remember my school ever being closed for snow
Although even the snow tends to avoid Barrow.
