Have you installed the VMware tools?This improves graphic performance a lot. You could then also enable RDP/Remote Desktop and connect via this at Full Colour.

I installed VMWare Playerbut I can't see it in the Program Files list, and it doesn't make any change to the graphics card in the dxdiag list.
