I've never understood the hotter = better thing with curries. I enjoy hot food, but I don't understand the desire to burn your tongue and then spend 24 hours shitting scalding hot arse piss.
Whoever invented chilli essence 'all of the heat, none of the flavour' is dick.

It's a dickhead rugger-bugger machismo thing.
That said my tolerance is quite high after years of heavy chilli consumption so I genuinely enjoy things others don't because they think they're too hot.

Yeah, I eat fairly hot too, as 20 years of smoking and drinking killed too many taste buds and age took care of some more,
but it's got to be heat + flavour, not 'I want the hottest thing I can get because that's how I prove I have a penis'.

And the bit that pisses me off about it is, for people like me who are heat-mongs, it makes us too scared to try medium (or higher) because everyone else is ordering the hotest thing and you think you'll only be alright if you order a korma.
I've only recently discovered that there is more to indian curries than "Almonds, Coconut and Stuff".
