This is exactly why our local shutfull of scumbags and druggies, but unfortunately they were the only people with the spare time, money and inclination to spend a lot of time in there.

Isn't the problem that 'scumbags and druggies' don't have the money to spend there.If the landlord had kicked out all the scrotes and done something to make his pub more appealing to nicer people with money, it might not have closed.

Indeed. They did try a bit (good food deals etc) but the place really needs a full refurb, which they didn't have the cash for.
