Oddly, was talking about this last night
When I worked at McDonalds, the apple pies have to be left to sit for 10 minutes before they get boxed up, they're usually left to one side, rather than over the fryer.

I was once moving the basket to one side, when one of the pies slipped out and started to fall. Reflexes kicked in, and I swung to catch it before it hit the floor. This had only been out of the oil for about 30 seconds (at most), and as you can imagine, were rather hot. As I grasped it, it burst, meaning I got apple flavoured lava all over my hand. Fucking agony.
