On my 18th birthday I walked into a local pub and asked if I could have a job
The landlord employed me cos he was impressed with my nerve. I didn't realise this at the time, having never been drinking in a local pub by that point (because Rock City was in Nottingham city centre), but it was the roughest pub in a 3 mile radius. It was there that I learnt to duck.

Morning all

*sigh* Here's how it worked, Nakers.
I went to school in Nottingham rather than my local comp because I was (emphasis on past tense) quite clever. The few friends I made were more interested in drinking in pubs in the city centre than coming all the way across the county to my home town. Plus, Rock City was in the city centre, and we used to go there. Local pubs round my way held no appeal for me until the prospect of earning a wage, and learning to duck, became available.

HTH you bent spastic.

One of my all time favourite eye-wipingly hilarious pieces of television footage
is from an Arena 'heavy metal' documentary made in the 1980s. It's shot in Rock City at a 'heavy metal' disco - it was the first time I became aware of the 'skipping around the dancefloor' activity. Oh 'heavy metal'. Oh dear.

Hahahaha that takes me back
People used to do that in the late 90s when I was a regular. I was very much of the "see how many people one can blind by flinging one's hair about" school of dancing.

eh?

I worked in the kitchens at my local pub and they wouldn't let me drink there anymore.
That was a bit shit.
It wasn't rough though - I lived in a nice area.

What a story. What. A. Story.

Ok, I admit that I embellished it a little.
