I think she actively supported south american dictatorships
that committed mass murder, and then assisted the perpetrators to avoid prosecution for war crimes.

I think that's pretty fucking evil.

that might be a more reasonable reason to call her evil, although there's still a bit of a leap to make there
yes.

But a) you and I know full fucking well that most people banging on about the witch being dead aren't doing it because of her connections to Pinochet and b) By that argument, every british PM in the last 50 years is evil for their unwavering support of the US, Israel, etc etc.

I think there is a clearly arguable difference between supporting the US and supporting Pinochet
and if you can't see that then I don't think you should continue talking about this.

Yeah, it seemed to be fair cricket in Vietnam innit
Iraq too, not forgetting Afganistan. Propping up various regimes around the World with patchy track records

I think there's a clearly arguable difference between supporting a leader of a regieme that turned out to be commiting acts of torture
and being held resposible for that torture yourself, too.
(, Mon 8 Apr 2013, 14:35, Reply)
And at no point did I claim she was personally responsible for torture
but if you think it's totally acceptable for the US government to carry out torture I think that's pretty evil, with no watering down of the word at all.

If you have the power to dictate that an entire country will condemn the actions of a leader who orders mass murder and torture and you not only don't condemn them, but instead support them fully and help to avoid being held to account, then I also think that's evil.

Who said the US torturing people was acceptable?

(, Mon 8 Apr 2013, 14:42, Reply)
Nobody, stop side stepping the issue
I said she could clearly be defined as evil due to her support of Pinochet, you think that's a leap. I don't.

My example is that if you think torture is acceptable then you're pretty evil, what she did was a whole lot worse than just thinking that torture is acceptable.

Which bit of that don't you get?
(, Mon 8 Apr 2013, 14:48, Reply)
You'd said that you didn't think the US and Pinochet were comparable.
And then said the US torturing people was evil. Hence my confusion.

Both the US and Pinochet's regieme have carried out acts with are, by both of our agreements, evil. Both were supported by UK governments. So, therefore, if we agree that supporting those that carry out acts of evil are evil themselves, then Thatcher is evil. As are Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron.

I still think you're diluting the value of "evil" here though. But hey, that's my opinion and right, just like it's yours to celebrate the death of a senile old woman.

I celebrated the fact that she went senile
today is just an opportunity to finish things off.

For some reason I've just had a fucking awful mental image
that you've been on the vinegars for about 8 years just waiting for today.

:(

just FYI
I think I'd happily call every UK PM in the last 50 years a cunt. I'll just go and look over the list and let you know if I feel any are exempt.

Edit: Gordon brown is the only one I have any positive feelings for, and that's mostly pity.
