Gnah' fuck fuck fuck, I just finished a huuuuge project that i've put stupidly large hours into (did 107 hours in 10 working days)....
.... I just finished it last night, just was about to put my stamp on it, and there has been a massive server failure and i've lost a shitload of work; 'cus on this framwork you have to work directly on the server, you can't work locally. And there was no backup 'cus its a stage env. I think it'll only take me 2-3 days to recreate it, 'cus I've got some stuff saved, but still..... I was looking forward to everyone going "HOLY SHIT YOU'RE AWESOME" on monday =(

I'll show you lot all the wonderful work when it's sorted !

Somebody has a development framework that allows work to be lost due to a server failure?
In 2013?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHOOOOOOHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm totes sympathetic and that but ... ahahahahahahahaha. No. I just can't find space for the sympathy because my face is totally full of scorn and derision. Soz.

you really are a dullard

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 17:42, Reply)
Probs.
But I'm not the one who just wasted three days of his life on work that has been needlessly thrown away.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 17:55, Reply)
I've seen you on facebook, you've wasted WAY more than 3 days in your life.
I wouldn't say it was needlessly thrown away.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 17:58, Reply)
I once lost about six months of work because a rocket exploded on take off.
If you're going to lose work you should do it with massive billion-dollar explosions and not a rack overheating in Slough.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:02, Reply)
Gonzo loves hot racks. Hurhurhur

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:04, Reply)
If you got your calculations better, maybe you wouldn't have failed at your task so expediently.

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:14, Reply)
I didn't have anything to do with the rocket.
My stuff was in the payload. So I suppose it's now spread across a thousand acres of French Guiana or sutin.

I'm not entirely sure you're aware of all the prerequisites...
... but yeah', in the framework you work directly on the server. It's a single-use development server that gets thrown away when I'm done. I'm not in charge of the servers, I just work off them.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 17:57, Reply)
I'm not super duper interesting in the details
but any development process that allows you to lose a non-negligible amount of work because of a server failure is shit. Not 'arguably shit' or 'a compromise because of la-di-da'. It is fundamentally and inexcusably shit.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:01, Reply)
It's not ideal, but for the rareity of this happening, is it worth (all the time) the budget and time setting up a backup system for a single-use server-space for every dev for every client?

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:08, Reply)
Dunno.
It's your life.

But real software development would never do anything so ... 1970s.

Oh gosh, I just found a tab open with this. I think maybe next month maybe.

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 16:55, Reply)
I've only bought one about 5 years ago, I think I paid about £550 for a 37".
And this one is 3D so that would be dead good, have you seen 3D at the picture? I saw the imax yesterday, it was good.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 17:24, Reply)
Hollyoaks in 3D.
All of your dreams for less than five hundred quid.

How much extra will it cost to have a telly with a windscreen wiper on it?

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:08, Reply)

(, Sun 28 Apr 2013, 18:13, Reply)
100Hz is slow. And you'll need to fork out extra for the active 3D glasses. And Toshiba's smart tv stuff is a bit shit and super slow on their cheap models.
I'd save up for another month and get something from Samsung. HTH.

Shitty shit shits.
