Amalfi coast is excellent & not expensive. Fly to Naples & it's about an hour south by bus.
Also, before Rory suggests it; Tibet.

I've not been to Italy before, sounds ok.
Bar pixie from my local has just gone, flights were well cheap. I shall investigate.

Stayed in Sorrento when I went. Easy to get to Pompei, Capri, Positano etc from there. Plus the coast is stunning - world heritage site.
