Get a wire coathanger, straighten it and selotape the wire to one end.
Makes it a lot easier.

They redid my whole block's electrics a year or two back. All they did was stick a new massive fat (black) rubber-coated cable on the outside of the old trunking. Fucking cowboy cunts.
