I did the same thing to a cyclist last year.I just did not see him due to bad timing.
Luckily we didn't collide, but he still fell off and was pretty shaken.
Similarly he was forgiving and calmed down once he realised that it was a genuine mistake for which I was truly sorry.

i had one ride into me when i was stationary (seemed stoned off his gourd)apart from the fact that the shock of the collision and having a man fly over my bonnet and splat on the road really distressed me, he made a total fucking mess of the side of the car. which, of course, he wasn't insured to pay for, oh no...
