I've been to America twice
I hated it both times, but it wasn't America's fault. It tried its best. I just think I didn't go to the places that were right for me.

My old man lived in Chicago for a while,
in a suburb which was 20mins from the 'big city' but was on the shores of a freshwater lake (with sandy beach) in a conservation area of extraordinary beauty, like a film set. It was like smalltown America whilst being minutes from the 'action' AND seaside AND millions of 2nd hand record shops. I'd move there tomorrow if I could.

The Great lakes are 20% of the Earth's fresh water.
With thousands of miles of shoreline. The first time I flew into Minneapolis we were flying over (Huron?) one for over an hour.

I spent one summer holiday camping by lake Ontario
jumping off cliffs into the water with no fear, because it was completely transparent and you could tell precisely how deep it was and that there were no hidden rocks etc. Fan-fucking-tastic.
