You've written a sit-com?

(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:45, 1 reply, 12 years ago)
sort of
my friend and i are writing one. she's a tv producer, so has a fair few contacts. we've got one production company in NYC and one in london that want to see us, but now we're panicking that it's shit, so there's a lot of rewriting.

Ooo.
Is it lolwaki, or drizabone? Does it involve several young, dynamic 20-somethings misunderstanding each other's first world problems, with HILARIOUS consequences?
(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:51, Reply)
the problem is that it needs to be more lolwaki
it's fucking hard to be lolwaki.

I have a cunning plan!

lol!

Oo matron!

Why not turn it into a dark surrealist dystopian take on American society, paying particular attention to the increasing and unjustifiable gap between the rich and the poor, instead?

because "friends" has already been done

You're no fun any more.

The problem is sitcoms are rarely funny.
Most seem to get commissioned on the strength of the 'sit' bit alone, then the same poor gags get recycled over and over.
(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:55, Reply)
oh get you mister blah blah blah I know everything about sitcoms fucking blah cunt

(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:58, Reply)
To be fair, aren't there only 7 types of joke or something?

(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:58, Reply)
the biggest problem is that it has to come from action/plot rather than dialogue
it's easy to write funny dialogue. plotting something that has A, B and C structures in just 24 mins is HARD. also i think the traditional models are a bit outdated now; there's a lot more of these comedy/drama hybrids around, and love them or hate them, they are v successful. but if you were pitching one, you'd really struggle, as it doesn't fit into anyone's niche.
(, Wed 14 Aug 2013, 14:58, Reply)
blah fuckin blah, shut the fuck up about it now, no one cares

Man is shaving. Opens mirrored bathroom cabinet to get something out, closes it ...
KENNETH WILLIAMS IS BEHIND HIM!

Kenneth WIlliams and man share flat together....
with unfortunate results. For the man. Kenneth gets EXACTLY what he was after.

A corpse in the mirror is more horror than comedy
