i might go blackberrying at some point and make some
apple and blackberry. Although I think I have all the good apples for the moment - I suppose there will be more in a week or two

Sounds nice. Is jam difficult to make?
An ex of mines mum used to make damson jam from the tree in their garden, it was easily the finest jam I have ever had.

You can make jam in a microwave? Now I've seen everything.
Might give that a go, plus apple and ginger sounds good.

Don't you need special thermometers and stuff otherwise?
+ I was looking at the wrong one

i haven't
but perhaps some jams do? I have a fancy thermometer, but that's for dyeing and has been in cochineal and fustic (not up a bum, though) so I don't think it belongs in jam

Given the temperature that sugar boils at you'll be fine using that thermometer.

not after it's been in the mordants, too
I only have alum atm, but you can use copper and iron, too. I don't think that will help the flavour

Possible not.
What have you been dying? Making you own brand of interesting fashionable clothes? Bringing back tie-dye?

i've been doing some natural dyeing
some in big vats, and more recently i did a course making pretty things by using random plants and the like to dye thinks with. Another reason to go blackberrying

I think it's good when people do things that are a bit different from the norm.
I should find something to do one day.

I started doing it after going to a wool festival
yeah, a wool festival. So best way to start is to jettison your pride and do the least cool thing you can find

Having heard that there *is* a wool festival...
I think I will now have to find the second least cool thing I can find.
