i might go blackberrying at some point and make some
apple and blackberry. Although I think I have all the good apples for the moment - I suppose there will be more in a week or two

Sounds nice. Is jam difficult to make?
An ex of mines mum used to make damson jam from the tree in their garden, it was easily the finest jam I have ever had.
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:30, Reply)
this one's easy
although I use a pan

You can make jam in a microwave? Now I've seen everything.
Might give that a go, plus apple and ginger sounds good.
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:33, Reply)
i don't remember the recipe being in the microwave last time
I hope I have the right one. SHould work, anyway
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:34, Reply)
Don't you need special thermometers and stuff otherwise?
+ I was looking at the wrong one
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:35, Reply)
i haven't
but perhaps some jams do? I have a fancy thermometer, but that's for dyeing and has been in cochineal and fustic (not up a bum, though) so I don't think it belongs in jam
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:38, Reply)
Given the temperature that sugar boils at you'll be fine using that thermometer.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:39, Reply)
not after it's been in the mordants, too
I only have alum atm, but you can use copper and iron, too. I don't think that will help the flavour
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:40, Reply)
Possible not.
What have you been dying? Making you own brand of interesting fashionable clothes? Bringing back tie-dye?
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:40, Reply)
i've been doing some natural dyeing
some in big vats, and more recently i did a course making pretty things by using random plants and the like to dye thinks with. Another reason to go blackberrying
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:41, Reply)
That sounds both different and interesting.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:42, Reply)
ha! that's what I say to students with a poor idea

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:43, Reply)
I realise that may not have come across as particularly genuine
But that wasn't my intention.
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:44, Reply)
okay,
well thanks, I shall take it as such
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:45, Reply)
I think it's good when people do things that are a bit different from the norm.
I should find something to do one day.
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:47, Reply)
I started doing it after going to a wool festival
yeah, a wool festival. So best way to start is to jettison your pride and do the least cool thing you can find
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:49, Reply)
Having heard that there *is* a wool festival...
I think I will now have to find the second least cool thing I can find.
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:51, Reply)
it was good
there were sheep and lots of colours and types of wool and dyeing kits and hippy old ladies
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:54, Reply)
Can't believe I missed it.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:56, Reply)
Cavy have you asked him if he is HAWT and from S/Wales yet???

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:46, Reply)
nah
dating is for chumps and all men lie and are bastards, or whatever I'm supposed to say as a bitter old hag
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:48, Reply)
I see apple season is back again

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:51, Reply)
yeah,
2.5 kg of them after peeling and chopping today. Also, the compost is topped up and smells of cider sick, and I have a bin bag of not too terrible ones to go too a friends horse
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:52, Reply)
I thought you was off LARPing this weekend?

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:59, Reply)
that was last weekend
this one is mopeing and pickling weekend
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 20:02, Reply)
I could have gave you a load of black cherries a few weeks ago
would apples and cherry work? I have no idea
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 20:11, Reply)
no idea
I'm not a good cook, really. Pickles and jam are more like chemistry or something
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 20:11, Reply)
Yes. They would work together.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 20:12, Reply)
I take offence to this.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:52, Reply)
i'm a bitter old hag
it's in my contract to say that
(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:55, Reply)
Fair enough, I wasn't aware of your social standing.

(, Sat 31 Aug 2013, 19:57, Reply)
