porn
so whilst i was away recently, i lent my laptop to a male friend. a single male friend.

he has carefully deleted the history of websites, so all my addresses that popped up automatically - thrilling things like halsburys laws of england - have gone. this is really annoying as i never use favourites and now can't find half of them.

but he has clearly also been using it for more personal purposes. if i type an address that begins with a p, it pops up with allsorts from something called "pornhub" - "search for masturbating virgins, first time lesbians etc". wtf??? and no matter how many times i delete my internet history etc, that remains in place.

how do i get rid of it?

and do i tell him???

reminds me of when i was at uni and my flatmate's 15 year old brother came to stay. the bill for all the movies he'd watched on the porno channel was huge..... being naive, he'd watched just enough of each one to trigger the charge, probably thinking he was being v v clever......

I have no idea
how to delete it, but your friend deserves a mild ticking off at teh very least.

pr0n indeed!

how rude!

at least
he seems to be into normal things. i suppose it could have been a lot lot worse!!

yeah, but
he used YOUR property for his own pleasure.

if you lent a long-handled hairbrush to your friend and it came back all sticky, you wouldn't be best pleased, would you?

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow!!!!
good point.

actually that happened once when i lent my rollers to my friend. but that was just hairspray.

*wonders if she was being impossibly naive and there is some sick masturbatory pleasure to be gained from babyliss heated rollers*

at least it WAS hairspray
but someone, somewhere probably does use them for that purpose.

I'm not going to google it though.

Try
Control Panel for dodgy looking programs.

If you need any help, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

what program are you using?
Well? Tell me.

I think the solution is well easy in FF.

Also you should use delicious for your bookmarks, it's very handy.

Thats rather rude
At the very least you will need to run it through a good virus scanner.

If he is useless enough to not be able to surf cleanly he will be useless enough to expose your laptop to risk.

Try this link for a quick check

vil.nai.com/VIL/stinger/

Also download, install and run this. then once you have downloaded and run it, run it once a week.

www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2008/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?cdlPid=10844457

that will check for the most common stuff circulating at the moment.

Its not a substitute for a proper up to date full virus/trojan scan though.

And YES, please do tell him that his behaviour was out of order. He has put your data at risk, and if he was a gentleman would take remedial action by purchasing a nice new copy of a good anti virus package for you.

If he had spent the night in your spare bed and you had found balled up sticky toilet paper under the bed next to a few choice magazines the next morning after he had gone, I bet you would have had something to say to him. This is little different.

thanks guys
will try running one of those. the virus shield thing isn't working and the computer is slow as hell, does that mean it's infected?

how grim!!

Also, if you do want to clear all the history
And the saved forms, and crap like that -

www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Great little tool for clearing as much as you want.

Also very good for sorting out your startup.

If you want a more in depth scanner than Ad-aware then GAZ me, and I'll send one across
