I went to a state boarding school not a private one, it was an elected payment so had a lot of forces children etc, there who would pay a percentage of the fees. I got in due to being bright but a fucking tearaway.
At the time it provided a far better education than any of the local comps. The rules allowed me to do far better than I would have done at a comp, and yes I think that boarding schools do offer a much better education that day schools, I would welcome more state boarding schools as they are tarnished with the brush of the Eton's of the world.

I think that a lot of them got shut down towards the end of the previous Tory government. I know my old school is now a housing development

It does provide a stable environment for kids who have potential but are let down by the local environment.
