Decided to stick vinyl tiles over the top of the original mosaic tiled floor.
I'm cleaning off the adhesive residue prior to getting it professionally polished and sealed.

I spent ages putting back the panelling that had been removed from the staircase and replaced with swirly metal

Vinyl was the new big thing in the 60's and the traditional look was seen as for the poor (who couldn't modernise)

really incredible old English country house that is totally falling down, you get to go round it in a hard hat and hi-vis etc. when it fell into decline in the 40's, it was let to a catholic naughty boys' school.
their art project from the 40's to the 80's was to paint over the Elizabethan and Jacobean plasterwork and woodwork. it's utterly criminal, to see those incredible sights... covered in that shade of green paint that was so peculiar to the 60's.
brilliant day out though. the hall is so beautiful, but 48 bedrooms and not a single bathroom... and you get to see the secret passage between the king's room and his bumchum's room and then there's a lovely pub for lunch.
