Does she have
all the music files on the computer? If so, she can copy them as data files to a CD or DVD, then copy them onto the new machine.
Sadly, iTunes is an eeevil program that will not allow you to copy from an iPod to a computer. It also seems to have erased a lot of files from my PC, though I told it not to sync with it. Fortunately I still have the CDs so it's not a big problem, but still...

Burn all the music files
To a DVD.
EDIT: Or, fuck, if you've got a memory stick that's a Gig or more, use that!
Benefit of using a DVD is that you've got a real back-up.

Thanks for all the help.
I think she was hoping there was some magical, easy and quick way it could be done.

The only other thing I can think of
would be to set up a temporary network between them and copy them that way- but I think burning to DVD is the best way, really.

To be fair,
It doesn't get much quicker and easier than burning a DVD :p

Is she using macs?
If she is, she can firewire the data between machines.
If she's not, then I don't know!
*useless info*

If she uses Macs
she should suffer for her stupidity, as Apple machines are krep.

Apple machines are pretty good
/Avid PC user.
I'd rather use an Apple than a PC for video/sound editing.
They're expensive though.

Re firewire / computer to computer LAN connections
I don't know if it's different for firewire, but if you're going to network two computers straight into one another, you probably need to get a very specific sort of LAN cable - they're called crossover cables - as the normal cables are designed for a computer-to-network hub connection, not computer-to-computer.

Yeah...
sorry, just had some unpleasant Apple experiences lately, so I'm a little biased at the moment. Gotten to the point where I'm about ready to curse Steve Jobs as much as I do Bill Gates...

Yeah, the cartoon makes a good point...
I've not been using Debian for very long, but I've spent the whole time feeling slightly out of my depth.
But at least as a result I haven't had to subject any of my computers to Vista.

I've heard stories
about Vista. My one experience with it was this weekend, trying to network a Vista machine to my XP machine to transfer files.
I think I taught the people around me a few new phrases.

WHAAAT?
Macs (and all Apple products) are actually made of Pure Win. I should know, I've got enough of it!
/shameless Apple whore.
I use Vista at work. It makes my head hurt.

I'm not too sure I trust Apple's hardware.
My housemate has been using Macs for the last twelve months. Of the three she's used, two have exploded.
Well, "exploded" is a bit of an exaggeration, but they've had severe hardware failures - she even managed to make smoke come out of the back of one of them...

Hmph.
I've had my Macbook for two years, no problems. No problems from the iMac either, and that's 16 months old. Never had a problem with an iPod, and my iPhone is being good.
*touches wood*
Then again, maybe I've just been lucky, I've heard some right horror stories. I also let them be on sale for a bit before I invest (giving me time to save, mainly!), let 'em iron the niggles out!

I've had, in the last 16 years
*counts*
7 Macs and various other bits of Apple kit (iPod etc) and have never had any major hardware failures. Except for hard drives. Two laptop drives died, but they went gracefully, and I managed to save the data before they gave out completely.
