the problem with BMI is that it is overly simplistic and doesn't take into account other factors.

It's simplicity is one of the reasons it's so useful. Everyone can work out their own with simple measurements. Body fat percentage is complicated to measure. Also if it's so useless why does the NHS and any scientific/medical research paper use it?
