Are you a QOTWer? Do you want to start a thread that isn't a direct answer to the current QOTW? Then this place, gentle poster, is your friend.

So, er...
I'm embarassed to admit it, but I've been on B3ta waaaaaay too long to not know how to do this. Be gentle.

How do I link to just ONE thread of a QotW response? Like if I want to save my reply to check back later and see if anyone replied to my reply (or replied to the replies that are located inside my reply)? I've seen people say, "Oh, that reminds me of this..." and they then link to just one thread.

Also, how do I know ahead of time if my question is headed to the front page? I've seen plenty of "Edit: thanks for all the votes!" but I can't for the life of me figure out how I can tell if I am a winner or a loser before the question ends!

I'm not an idiot, I promise. I'll give you a cookie if you are nice to me...though, I'm still a bit sick, so I can't guarantee that the cookie will be free from snot and other debris...

If you click on the white page like icon at the start of the thread you'll get that thread only.

For this thread it's www.b3ta.com/questions/offtopic/post262360

As far as votes are concerned. The answers you are looking for can be found in the mysterious land of /all

Can I have one too?

.
To link to a specific reply in a QOTW post, view the HTML source of the page and look for a line similar to the following above the start of the post you want to link to - for example, to link to the first reply, you'll want to look for this: in this thread

<div class="post2" style="padding-left: 60px;" id="qotw-post-262364">

Using the URL of the page, add a '#' and then the bit in italics above to the end of the URL. You'll end up with the following:

http://www.b3ta.com/questions/offtopic/post262360#qotw-post-262364

This is the URL you should link to.

And here's a tip, if using Firefox, select the start of the message you want to link to and the end of the previous message and from the right-click menu, chose "view selection source". This will open the source-window with the qotw-post-xxxxxx anchor you want to copy amongst the highlighted text.

To make things easier, if the reply you want to link to is your own, copy the URL you are taken to as soon as you've submitted your post. You'll find it's the same as the one you'll get by following the above instructions.
