Thank you
for all your suggestions for my pumpkin. After much agonising I ignored them all and did this:

Clicky to embiggen.

Three hours later, I am cold, hungry and in pain. And there is pumpkin everywhere. But ... hurrah for my pumpkin!

Wish I'd done

Maybe next week there'll be cheap pumpkins everywhere so I can do more... and by then the memory of the hurty finger will have faded :)

Swan, I know :(

Very impressive indeed!

How big is your... er... Pumpkin?
Hard to get scale from that picture.

Haha!
Length - 8 1/2 inches
Girth - 26 inches

(That probably fits somewhere on that chart someone posted a while back...)

Hurrah for your pumpkin, hurrah indeed.

Gah!
How do you do it? Do you cut all the way through or do you carve just under the skin?

Either way, I'm impressed! :)
(, Thu 30 Oct 2008, 20:42, Reply)
On this one
I just carved under the skin, except the eyeholes and a twinkle on the nose which I poked out with a pin in an effort to give the candle enough air to stop it going out.

(It didn't work. So then I cut out a tiny piece at the top of the hat. Candle still went out. Then I cut some holes in the lid (so I can now take the lid off too, which is nice), and the candle is happy :) )

It would have been waaaaay too fiddly to cut right through (some bits are only a couple of mm wide), except maybe the hat and bow tie, which might have looked odd.

On this one it was a tad more complicated... it was both carved under the skin and cut right through for the 3D effect. It was hard to do! Pumpkins are unruly when you start trying to take chunks out of them.
