More job advice
You lot are like a band of superheroes, honestly. I'm 6 weeks into this job and on a 6 month probation. Do I have to give 4 weeks notice when I'm on probation or can I leave instantly? or is it dependant on the organisation?

If you speak to them
and explain that a) this job isn't really for you and b) You have had an offer somewhere they will probably agree to sever the contract instantly.

We have had verious staff on probation that suddenly vanish without a trace before the 6 months is up and without working a notice

it depends
It depends on what your contract says, it should stipulate the period of notice which must be given (either by you or by them) during the notice period.

According to the government the statutory minimum notice period is 1 week (providing you have worked there for more than one week)

That said, they are highly unlikely to sue you (owing to it costing far more than they would be able to get out of you) over missing 4 weeks (if for example, it is a 4 week notice period) if you really want to get out sharpish.

B3tamax is right
Its normally a weeks notice within your probation period, but your employers would more than likely let you go straight away.

Let you go straight away
especially if you go shit on the bosses desk, especially when they're on the phone.
