as some of you may know i live in dubai at the moment
cement trucks are as frequent a sight as daft arabs milling around the malls aimlessly.

i have a question though - i just saw a cement truck that had the big cementy sausage bit revolving - so what

but it was revolving VERY VERY SLOWLY

can some professor of cementalist studies please tell me why this might be

fankyoo!

ps it was RAINING AGAIN today! and thunder and everything!

It only needs
to revolve slightly, as all it is doing is preventing it from settling.

Umm
Cement can survive in the mixer lorry for a suprisingly long time with just a very slow roll as Ethel says to stop it settling.

If it starts to get close to setting in the lorry if it has been left too long (traffic jams etc) the driver will normally have access to a bag of chemical trickery which he can dump into the mixer as a last resort to prevent the cement setting and causing 1000's of quids worth of damage to the truck.

To be anal
Cement is an ingredient. Mixed with sand, rock/gravel, water (and other agents depending on requirements) it is used to make concrete. The truck is full of concrete.

well to be super anal
as much as that is true - and its called aggregate generally not gravel. there are trucks that carry exclusively cement - or mortar as the industry refers to it - it was the fast vs slow thing i was interested in

still love ya though friss

EDITS POOR SPELLING ON aggregate

agregate isn't even a word :) You are making this shit up.

Mortar is cement mixed with other stuff... not just cement itself.

well i beg to differ
cement is dry - it is mixed with sand and water to make mortar

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortar_(masonry)

add more sizable aggregate and bosh - you have concrete

thats whats in them trucks - its why one of the major suppliers is called readymix - main rival trumix

i would call you a cunt but i like you
