I can do technology, me!
Top o' de mornin!

Having received my (free) replacement Baylis Revolution Eco-media player after the first one was damaged, I filled it up with media, added a memory card and was good to go for a bit but then it went 'funny'.

I emailed the help people and they set me on a course of checks which eventually rendered up the solution of downloading firmware and reformatting.

It worked! (At least on the built-in disk. I think I will have to try reformatting the external one as well).

As a Luddite and a near-totally incompetent clown, I am immensely proud of not having f*cked that up.

What inconsequential trivialities have made you undeservedly proud of yourself recently?

I learnt to find codecs missing from my computer

and dowload them from the internet, which means I can carry on watching series 5 of Lost.

In off the red!

I did that. (Taught my dog to do the washing for those who can't be arsed to look at my little moment of glory!)

And I was sooooo proud!

And then I took the knots out of the rags he was using in the video there and he had NO IDEA what to do with them. So apparently, I can get my dog to do my washng for me, but only if I tie knots in all my clothes first.

It started as a couple of people taking the piss out of me for having a filthy mind, then a newcomer jumped in and started making all manner of accusations as a joke, then he took it too far. Unwanted attention was drawn to our group and things very nearly got completely out of hand!

Somebody else in the pub gave him a right shoeing later though!

My sister has one of those Bayliss jobs
Good idea in principle, but she's on her fifth one! A mix of hardware and software issues, including the winder snapping off; they seem pretty poorly made.

Grrr
Not shouting at people who I phone, or asking how exactly their company/institution manages to function with so many fuckwits in charge of administration, Pretending I give a fuck about the dumb hoops I have to jump through to get jobseekers - and putting up with the general assumption that I'm basicaly a lazy cunt from them, despite the fact I spend damn near 5 hours a day plus looking for work in some form or another - and genrealy not cracking up. /rant over....

The Baylis is a smashing machine when it's working
but yeah, clunky, plastic, finicky.

I love the idea of it.
And the e-book reader.
And it's very loud.
And it has a torch on it which really does come in handy, especially when you dont have a torch. And it's dark out.

uh-huh.

Getting a couple of kittehs from the kitteh rescue
On my day off last week Chickenlady and I went to the local cat rescue with a view to looking round at cats. Several promising candidates blotted their copybook, however we were followed round by a delightful ginger tom and a pretty tortoiseshell. Turns out they're brother and sister and only came as a pair.

One pitiful donation later (I must, must go back to make another donation) we drove home with the two of them curled up together in the cat carrier. Five days later and they've settled in well and greet us first thing in the morning. Bless!

I'm unapologetic about being fluffeh shallow.
