I work in a nearly related fieldand there is indeed a bit of a shortage. Is it a large company you've applied to?

The add was through a recruiting web site (I found on the UK groundwater forum web site)and did not specify the company or its size. It is a consulting company and I assume a larger one. The job is for a "Technical Director of Hydrogeological and Geological Services" which indicates a larger company.

The company can't emply you unless you have a valid work permitthey might help you get one, but I would do a bit of research just to be on the safe side. If there is a shortage in the UK then it makes it easier.
