Although the answer is probably yes just because I go to this site too often, I just sent in a CV for a job offering for a hydrogeologist in Warwickshire. I doubt they will even contact me as I am in the states instead of the UK, but it could be interesting.

They'll probably assume that you're prepared to move if you've bothered to apply.
If you're not prepared to move, then it was really just a stupid waste of time. Unlesss they offer you the job, in which case that would serve as a little ego boost.

would want someone from the states although I am more than qualified. We have been thinking aobut leaving the US ever since the Bush years started. With no real changes in the forseeable future, we are still seriously considering it. (It's amazing that people in this country call Obama left wing. He is center-right at most in my opinion).

You could go to Coventry - city of my birth - and check out the concrete buildings - they're fucking lovely... And you haven't lived until you've tried negotiating the Coventry ring road - who needs rollercoasters when you've got that heart-attack-inducing cunt-tacular beast to contend with.

Classy architecture.

that the locals don't mistake your accent for being from a certain part of Birmingham: the last thing you want is for the locals to think you're a Villa supporter... I imagine you have absolutely no fucking idea what I'm talking about...
But seriously, Warwickshire's a lovely place; loads of nice greenery and quaint little places to visit and chill out in. Would definately recommend the county as a nice place to settle down.

Come and play with the British and try and convince that other B3ta merkin to come back too.

would get a work permit. But I doubt that would be much of an issue if you are properly qualified for the job. You could check on the home office website and make sure though.

I was wondering about that. I assume the company would help address this issue. There is a shortage of qualified huydrogeologists in the the UK (at least according to a government web site) so I don't think I would be considered to be taking away jobs from the english. Don't tell the BNP though.

and there is indeed a bit of a shortage. Is it a large company you've applied to?
( , Tue 9 Jun 2009, 13:44, Reply)

and did not specify the company or its size. It is a consulting company and I assume a larger one. The job is for a "Technical Director of Hydrogeological and Geological Services" which indicates a larger company.

they might help you get one, but I would do a bit of research just to be on the safe side. If there is a shortage in the UK then it makes it easier.

Stay out of the sun for a while buddy.

My ancestry shows though with my pale white burns in two minutes of direct sunlight Irish-English skin tone. (My hair used to be dark and curly but now it is just gray and curly, don't know if that matters).

Unfortunately it's just not feasible for me anytime soon, if ever. England probably wouldn't let me in.
Interestingly, I'm told there was a poll done not long ago which showed that, given a choice, about 3/4 of the population of England would expatriate. So maybe I'm best off staying put anyway...

don't own Honda Accords. And thank Christ for that, otherwise the streets would be littered with the smashed corpses of those who had wronged.

it would probably be good for them (I regret not getting my kids to Europe before they were teenagers) to see there is more to the world than just the US. Of course if there are custody issues etc I imagine that could really complicate matters.

though they're not young- I now only have one under the age of eighteen.
Mostly for me it's more an issue of engineers not being in demand, having to be around for my kids while they're in university and until they get on their feet, and generally being tied to the US by family.
Part of the joys of being unemployed is having endless time to reflect upon your life and your options- and I'm not liking what I'm seeing in mine.

for environmental engineers as remediation of contaminated sites continues even if a bit slower than it used to be.
( , Tue 9 Jun 2009, 16:09, Reply)

And there ain't shit out there for me. I've sent out scores of resumes and not heard anything back from anyone- they don't even give the courtesy of a "No thanks" message.
Fuckers...
