Pisswitch
Have been informed that, when my company moves to the new building (this weeked), all net activity is going to be recorded/monitored.

Looks like my days of having b3ta open constantly are over, but I should be able to pop on for lunch, and a few mins here and there.

What management decisions have made you swear recently?

Currently I am my own boss
so lots of them.

Why not use a proxy?
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:29, Reply)
They're not blocking sites (they won't)
It's more the activity that's the problem, so if I spend all day on a proxy, they'll see it.

I work whilst browsing, but unfortunately they'd just see that I have a browser open all day...

But you could be using the browser for work based stuff
if they're not checking sites, I reckon just leave it open.

This will make it much
easier to slag you off openly

Exactly.

Have you ever met your IT dept,
if they're as lazy as our lot they wont give a fuck what you look at.
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:32, Reply)
Our IT dept consists of one guy
But I don't think he'll be the one getting the logs. I know the person most likely, so I'll give it a month and see how active management are with the checking.
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:36, Reply)
I think that's the way to play it,
also make sure your work doesn't suffer.
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:38, Reply)
They usually keep it
for a finite period of time in case you do something naughty and they need some proof.

Like a guy in one of our offices managed to eBay most of the office furniture (it was a 1 man office) and only got caught when he couldn't print after selling his print server.

We had to drag up logs of what sites he visited, but they weren't monitored day to day.

Hahahaha, that's fantastic

They then also discovered
that he was spending £150 odd each time he filled up with his fuel card.

He had a Ford Focus.

He wife had an Astra.

His daughter had a suzuki something or other.

They all filled up one after the other then he paid on the card! The forecourt videos were pretty impressive as they show him doing it for months.

Awesome!
Cheeky, but awesome. He should be an MP.

^ this

(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 12:03, Reply)
Yep, this is why they're doing it
It'll be reactive, but I know that in the first few weeks they're likely to test it out ;)

My boss at the start of the year
Randomly decided that we shouldn't be finishing work at 1715 but 1730 instead.

I guess he actually had a good look at our contracts or something...
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:40, Reply)
.
Do you know how they will be monitoring?

If so, there are often ways round them!
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 11:43, Reply)
Not yet
But I plan to find out ;)
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 12:02, Reply)
b3ta is blocked for me
but sickrik isn't. Score!

They still occasionally come over and point out how my internet access is 3x the next highest. I just sigh and say how sad it is that no-one else has the drive to improve themselves by learning more about their job.
(, Tue 16 Jun 2009, 13:19, Reply)
I'd die
if I couldn't skive on the interwebbles.
