I do.
I'm awesome at science.

Imagine,
being *educated* about a subject, and having an informed opinion!
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:17, Reply)
*radiates awesomeness*

(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:18, Reply)
Oh my gosh,
never mind the fact I'm studying it right now and have been for the last 12 weeks. I should obviously just bow out now - but damn it I just don't think I will!
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:19, Reply)
I think a biology degree and work experience in the field trumps your 12 weeks, but what do we know?
we're just the little people who live inside your computer
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:21, Reply)
Gosh!
12 whole weeks? There are other people on this board with actual *experience*. But don't let that get in your way, eh?
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:22, Reply)
Gosh I know that - but that doesn't mean I haven't learnt enough to form an opinion and back it up.

I've been working setting up "the flu line"
and been dealing with pandemic flu plans since January.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:27, Reply)
We'll have none of your real world experience opinions here, thank you.

(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:40, Reply)
VC, I've met the people who are working on the vaccine for the swine flu
believe me, they'd love your input in this matter.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:30, Reply)
if you're pretending to have me on ignore
you really shouldn't answer sub threads I start.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:34, Reply)
If you have nothing interesting to say then I don't reply
Nothing personal, it's the same for everyone.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:39, Reply)
Why do you hate me so much?

(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:40, Reply)
I'm sure they already know that it's a virus,
so they need to work out how to make a antiviral that flags cells with the approriate protien antigens from the flu. They know what they're doing.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:35, Reply)
they've already got two,
tamiflu and renoxil (sp)

but antivirals are counterproductive on a large scale and should only be used for short term containment, that time has passed.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:38, Reply)
you haven't talked total sense through this mate,

(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:20, Reply)
Do I ever?
I've talked fact though.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:21, Reply)
making a direct comparrison between this and spanish flu is a bit silly.

(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:23, Reply)
I'm not saying
That this "is" Spanish 'flu.
Of course it's not.
But due to the nature of the virus, the epidemiology has the potential to be very similar.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:27, Reply)
To clarify,
I'm NOT saying that anything is likely to happen.
I'm just saying that one influenza virus particle has much the same potential as another, and shouldn't be written off as no threat.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:30, Reply)
silly
this strain, does not have the potential to do that amount of damage,
it would have to mutate significantly, but then it would be a new strain.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:31, Reply)
I've explained myself badly.
You're right, of course.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:34, Reply)
I know what you were getting at,
I just like calling people silly,
you silly.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:35, Reply)
No YOU'RE silly!
Anyway, my area of speciality is parasitic disease, rather than this.
/excuse.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:38, Reply)
My academic area of expertise
if you can call it that is Neurochemistry,
this is just part of my job.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:42, Reply)
I'd hardly clam to be an expert, ha!
But I studied a lot about it.
Although my research project was on the female reproductive systems of a certain kind of water beetle.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:50, Reply)
you like parasites, I like bacteria and viruses.
You can say I don't know what's going on - Okay - maybe I don't have as an "informed" opinion as Kaol, but I do have quite a good idea of how viruses and bacteria transmit and live. I'm entitled to my opinions just as much as you.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:43, Reply)
yeah... but...
you didn't know the difference between an disease and an infection up there.
so...
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:48, Reply)
yes I do -
the Flu is a disease. MS is a disease. A disease is where your body is not able to stay healthy and fight off whatever is going wrong. Infection is from pathogens. Disease can be autoimmune or otherwise.
