being *educated* about a subject, and having an informed opinion!

never mind the fact I'm studying it right now and have been for the last 12 weeks. I should obviously just bow out now - but damn it I just don't think I will!

12 whole weeks? There are other people on this board with actual *experience*. But don't let that get in your way, eh?

Nothing personal, it's the same for everyone.

so they need to work out how to make a antiviral that flags cells with the approriate protien antigens from the flu. They know what they're doing.
( , Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:35, Reply)

tamiflu and renoxil (sp)
but antivirals are counterproductive on a large scale and should only be used for short term containment, that time has passed.

That this "is" Spanish 'flu.
Of course it's not.
But due to the nature of the virus, the epidemiology has the potential to be very similar.
( , Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:27, Reply)

I'm NOT saying that anything is likely to happen.
I'm just saying that one influenza virus particle has much the same potential as another, and shouldn't be written off as no threat.
( , Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:30, Reply)

this strain, does not have the potential to do that amount of damage,
it would have to mutate significantly, but then it would be a new strain.

this is just part of my job.

But I studied a lot about it.
Although my research project was on the female reproductive systems of a certain kind of water beetle.

You can say I don't know what's going on - Okay - maybe I don't have as an "informed" opinion as Kaol, but I do have quite a good idea of how viruses and bacteria transmit and live. I'm entitled to my opinions just as much as you.
( , Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:43, Reply)

you didn't know the difference between an disease and an infection up there.
so...
( , Thu 18 Jun 2009, 11:48, Reply)

the Flu is a disease. MS is a disease. A disease is where your body is not able to stay healthy and fight off whatever is going wrong. Infection is from pathogens. Disease can be autoimmune or otherwise.
