I may or may not have mentioned that a dancer I know wanted to use our band in a dance video
ostensibly a music video too. well, it's up on our mypsace. I'd appreciate some feedback (bearing in mind that my band had no creative input other than having written the song)

it's on www.myspace.com/dumberthantheaveragebear

you'll need sound

No sound on my computer.
And can't watch videos at work.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:24, Reply)
ditto

(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:25, Reply)
I assumed that would be the case
thought there might be one or two people who could see it though
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:27, Reply)
*shrugs*
Dunno, clearly the best people can't watch it though :(

In other band news, I did a photo-shoot with for my blues-rock-acoustic band last night.
It was great fun!

good stuff
just had a chat with my drummer about our cd. we've had to eliminate some of the songs so we can not spend loads on production, but doesn't amtter too much
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:47, Reply)
How many tracks are you looking at in total now?

(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:55, Reply)
8 or 9 I think
not concerned about a couple of them, because they were very new at the time and we play them so much better now it would be painful to listen to them. We've prioritised the others so should get all the good ones done first. Getting the 4 we've already had mixed redone too so the solos are louder and they are actually mastered.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:59, Reply)
I saw it, it was hilarious

(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:31, Reply)
I'll check it out this evening
and slag you off to my mates.

I mean, let you know what I think.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:32, Reply)
I likes.
I likes muchly.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:34, Reply)
No sound either : (

(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:34, Reply)
Ooh I really like it
I'm well into the tune, but I also love brunette dancing ladies, so that's me happy for the next 30 mins.

I'm thinking about Tom Waites and Gomez now.
And brunette dancing ladies.

Silent running here too.
Also forgotten my phone charger so minimal phone internetting today :(

Internet
on a phone? You's damned posh! Mine can't even deal with pictures.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 13:49, Reply)
well, so far most people seem to like it
this is a good sign.

thanks folks!
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:48, Reply)
That was quite pleasant.
BUT, a song like that and no name check for canned heat? LoL.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:49, Reply)
it does have a little essence of On the road again about it I'll admit....

(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:50, Reply)
And none the worse for it young man.
Nothing wrong with classic blues harp and a grungy backbeat. Love it actually.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:52, Reply)
excellent
that is fairly typical of our stuff. gone a bit more prog recently, but the blues is still there
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:53, Reply)
Wooo Prog
...Woooo

I have no sound at work... or flash so Im boned for listening
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:58, Reply)
You'd get o well with my mate Kev.
He captains a super tanker and got a band together to alleviate boredom. They played a gig in a rough bar in Singapore and got out alive, so they can't be that bad.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:59, Reply)
good way to start a band
we've not ventured far from exeter at the moment!
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 12:00, Reply)
The video is a bit meh-ish
But the song was grand. Interesting to hear a juke-stompin' blues-rock warbler sung with an Exeter accent.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 11:59, Reply)
the video could have been a lot worse
we were dreading it would be a really amateurish affair. doubly bad as our singer has started seeing the dancer since the filming, so for his sake we really wanted to like it!
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 12:02, Reply)
It was OK
in concept albeit not very original, but execution made it feel a little sixth-form project-ish. Not a big criticism.

I may just listen to the other tracks you have up there. I do love the blues.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 12:03, Reply)
I know what you are saying
we were kind of expecting it to be much more sixth-form/college project-ish, so it was a relief that it wasn't.

the other stuff isn't so bluesy. I'll be putting some more tracks up in a couple of weeks I reckon, and that will give a better cross section of our stuff

edit: also, the one called arabajam - we were really quite drunk
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 12:10, Reply)
I dig that.
You guys are pretty damned good.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 16:16, Reply)
cheers
we're better now too, which is nice.

our cd is being mixed this week, so should have some more tracks available soonish.
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 16:23, Reply)
I like the song
but I don't approve of her nail varnish
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 17:05, Reply)
what is her nail varnish like?
I don't recall...
(, Tue 30 Jun 2009, 17:18, Reply)
thought that was cracking
the music is great and well performed, even if it does show it's influences rather prominently.
the video is rather brilliantly put together too.
my only slight criticism is that the girl seemed ever so slightly too aware of herself
