I wuz robbed
I've just discovered I've been plagiarized fairly blatantly (i work as a journalist). Opinions please -- should I go directly to the editor of the offending paper, or should I try dealing with the cheeky fucker who stole from me first?

If you can show that they've stolen from you rather than the other way round
then go to the editor.

hmm
would be fairly easy to show he stole from me. his article came out 6 weeks after mine. almost all of the quotes are identical, and there are major chunks he's lifted word-for-word, the lazy fucker. thing is, he's knowledgeable enough on the subject matter that he wouldn't have had to steal. that's what makes it more baffling.

Agreed
Go straight to the editor - if you deal with the guy himself, his boss will never find out he's employed a weasel.

and also once he's been caught out
he'll be able to put his side of the story to the editor before you get to him

A journalist copied you?
You're not Wikipedia, are you?
(, Thu 30 Jul 2009, 18:27, Reply)
hehe.
nope. and it's not like the fucker was using me for ``background research'' either. most of the direct quotes were identical. as were several other chunks of the story.

Then give him a broadside!
Of complaining!

As a journalist, it'd fuck me right off.

Mind you, someone would actually have to want to copy me first.

And I don't think you can sue the clinically insane.

Stoopid political correctness.

Not something I know anything about
but I agree - straight to the editor.

Then he will get a ticking off and have to explain himself to his gaffer.

I may have arrived at this one fairly late
but I wholeheartedly agree - straight to the editor. You can prove he copied you not the other way round, so get the plagiarising little toad busted. Something vaguely similar happened to me at uni, and it's fucking annoying.
