I've just been told that my contract "may not be renewed" but nothing definate you'll hear this week
One minute I was sitting here quite content and now I am just shaking. I need this job, when I first got it I didn't have a wife, child, car and large mortgage but now I do.

If I lose this job I'm pretty much screwed.

Prepare yourself
update your CV, make a list of agencies/past contacts that could find you work. If the worst happens you can hit the ground running.

Make a list of all the things that you have contributed in the last year

and trya nd put a value on them ie: deliver project x which delivered 200k of revenue.

They love the numbers at the high levels...

What the other guys said - get your CV prepared and registered with agencies that recruit for your area of work, own the phone and always offer to call them back rather than waiting for them to call and you make sure you keep in regular contact with any people you speak to.

Additionally, contact all other companies who might be able to help you - but do it directly. In these challenging times there are far fewer job advertisments, if you can demonstrate to a company that you are pro-active enough to want to contact them about working for them, this will go a long way toward helping with that.

Use the adrenaline that's making you feel shaky to take control and do whatever you can to prepare; it'll help you keep it together.
