my drummer is talking about setting up a twitter thing for our band
how can I get across to him that twitter is a massive pile of shit, and is completely pointless?

Any publicity
or way of reaching the masses is surely a good thing for your band, regardless of how shit it is?
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:13, Reply)
I'm fairly convinced that it won't reach anyone worth reaching

(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:22, Reply)
A fair point
but surely anybody who might be interested in your band, or your kind of music could stumble across the tweets and then go to your next gig?
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:24, Reply)
I think the chances of people stumbling across it are pretty remote
particularly people in a position to get to one of our gigs.

Other points include: we get paid the same regardless, I'm doing it because I want to play music, not because I have any dreams of going anywhere with it. we've all got too old and tied down to be able to abandon it to chase a dream of stardom.

I like you
I admire your perspective

Twitter him, saying
@drummer - this twitter thing is fucking shite and no one will pay you any notice, you can't even type anything useful as it's only 140 characters and who the fuck reads th
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:16, Reply)
I will send him exactly this
and point out that someone will need to actually update it and seeing as we have failed to update everything else we have it seems unlikely that it will happen

Write the words "This is a shit idea" backwards on a hammer
have an engraver remove the metal around the letters and hit him repeatedly on the forehead and then all over his body. When he looks in a mirror he will realise the error of his ways.

Al, al, al, al...!
I need your advice, that Becky's been nasty about me again in a thread below. Do I rise above it like a good little boy, or give her the good kick in her dribbling gerbilesque vagina that she so sorely needs?
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:23, Reply)
Bert, bert, bert, bert ....!
please just get over this and move on.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:26, Reply)
I have!
But she did a whole great big long thread of nasty things about me, I want to rise above it, but the girl seriously needs a good twatting.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:28, Reply)
This is worse than the Pete and Katie fiasco going on at the moment.
It's just as well there are no children involved.

I can count at least two

Teehee

(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:31, Reply)
I would add that you started it.

(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:32, Reply)
That simply is not true
I was a good friend to her for several months after the incident, she was having some personal problems and used them as an excuse to turn on me, then went completely mental. I'm not angry or upset about it, I haven't said anything malicious.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:35, Reply)
you started it yesterday,
I don't know or really care about the other stuff.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:36, Reply)
Yesterday I made a lighthearted comment
there wasn't any nastiness behind it, the girl just took it far too personally.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:40, Reply)
Sweetheart,
some things are best left forgotten and unsaid.

'Least said, soonest mended'

Anyway, we all want to hear about your shenanigans with Al and the goats...ahh, those were the days...
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:47, Reply)
Alright, but I don't have to like her

(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:50, Reply)
What I don't understand are the famous people who go on Twitter.
They complain constantly about their lack of privacy and then go on the internet and tell us what they're up to in their day to day lives.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:23, Reply)
Twitter is only any good if you're prepared to put time into it
and want to get something out of it yourself. You need to build up a network rather like Facebook, but it's open to all...a huge amount of networking needs to be done with retweeting other people's tweets and commenting on stuff and so on.
Potentially it's an amazing tool...if you're involved in things like writing/journalism/marketing and so on.

For music I'd say you're better off sticking to MySpace.

Twitter also is very much driven by the over 30s - this may not be your audience.

In short, it's not for a band but I love it.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:45, Reply)
that was my understanding of it
to get anywhere you have to put in a lot of effort. We can barely manage to drag ourselves to gigs outside our home town, so what are the chances of any of us putting in that effort? pretty slim!

we've got the myspace thing, and I'm going to sort us out a proper website too. it's just a shame that myspace is also shit.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:49, Reply)
Myspace is useful in that it eliminates the need
To send out tonnes of sampler CDs to people, all you need to do is drop them an email with a link in it.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:54, Reply)
yeah, the music player bit is by far the best
it's the awful way it's set up, and how bad it looks that are annoying.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 13:56, Reply)
I spent ages
hacking away at MySpace to make it look vaguely acceptable. It's possible to keep it minimalist and tasteful but it takes a fuckload of work.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 14:00, Reply)
And it worked?
Can you gaz me a link?
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 14:02, Reply)
I'm reasonably pleased with how ours looks
mainly because we've put fuck all stuff on it.

you still get cunts filling up your message board with their shit though.
(, Thu 27 Aug 2009, 14:08, Reply)
Mine looks GRATE
cos I made background wallpaper out of scans of the label from one of the best singles EVAH: 'The Snake' by the marvellous Pink Fairies.
