I missed my first lecture
As in, I missed a lecture for the first time, not my actual FIRST lecture.

What excuse do I give?
Or none at all, and tell the truth- I DID set my alarm, but slept through it?

Are lectures compulsory at your Uni?
I've taught at universities where they are. At my current place they aren't. Either way, I didn't care if students didn't make it as it's only themselves they are disadvantaging (though it's rude if it's a small class and the absence is noticeable as I'd like to mitch off too but I'm the lecturer, so I can't).

occasionally if one of my lazy slacker course mates got bored I'd drag them to one of my engineering geology lectures of something. The lecturers don't care if there are extra people there either.

if someone does ask why you weren't there don't give a reason, they don't actually care.
