Protect the obese?
It's a lifestyle choice called GREED.

So no.

"Not everyone has a free choice about controlling their weight."
Hahahahahhaha!
Yep, you only have to look at the malnutrition cases in parts of Africa to see those poor obese buggers who just have no choice but to be fat. Yeah, right.

It's quite simple really - realise your arse is developing its own gravitational pull: stop stuffing your gob with pies* - simple.

*having seen recent photos of myself I'm currently taking this advice before I blot out the sun and have to start shopping in Evans

As my old Granny used to say....
No fat bastards came out of Belsen.

I have a mate who weighed 23 stone last time I knew her weight, exactly twice as much as I did. Possibly even fatter now.
She never stops eating. She's in her late 40s and registered disabled with her crumbling knees and diabetes, not to mention her missing teeth (from stuffing sweets and drinking cola) and recurrent groin-area and under-bust boils and sweat rashes.

She also smokes rollies, though she rarely drinks, and in her fat youth was fearsomely promiscuous but has never had a smear test.

I sometimes wonder what'll get her first - an infection aggravated by the diabetes, a heart attack, cervical or other cancer, a stroke...

You'd think she'd want to lose weight, but she's not arsed. Truly believes she's healthy.

"It is not about who you are or what you have done, it is just about the way you look."
WTF?
barely a word this person says makes any sense.
ok there are people out there with a metabolism-based weight problem, we all know that. the absolute truth is that the vast majority of fat people are that way for one simple reason...the combination of innapropriate diet and not enough exercise. it's a basic principle of biology (the Krebbs cycle? sorry it was 23 years ago) that un-used calories get stored for later.
people should not target the fat/corpulent/obese for similar reasons that they should not target people with different coloured skin or hair or religious persuasion or political outlook HOWEVER idiots will always seek out those different from themselves for purposes of amusement.
most fat people could do something about it if they had the wherewithall, but it's not easy.

It's kind of an odd case
Like many of us on here, I occasionally see someone morbidly obese heaving their sweaty, wobbling arse onto the tube and I am disturbed by it. It's not a pleasant sight. Part of me feels sorry for them, and suspects there's some tragic back-story of poor self-esteem and metabolic problems that led them to balloon in this fashion. But the other part of me wishes they'd consider the enormous moment of inertia they're causing about one side of the carriage and STOP EATING.

What I don't do, however, is go and punch them in the face. I don't know who that Honda Accord driving type was that attacked that fat woman, but he was probably taking it a little bit too far.

My friend did suggest that we should have a campaign to "poke the obese" until they take some sort of action to shift their weight. Or we take the Family Guy approach of following them around playing a Sousaphone behind them.

I think a Viz top tip put it best:
"Overweight people - stop giving into the temptation to 'just have a little bit' of that chocolate cake/pack of crisps/barrel of biscuits by not buying the fucking thing in the first place."

The part of the article which makes least sense to me...
Ms Szrodecki said: "This is a very common event - someone being beaten up should be a crime.

It is. It's called assault. We don't need any more laws, thank you.

There are some people out there who will attack others for one reason or another.
If it's not fat people, then it's the racial minority etc.

It won't change anything.

I'm getting to be a tubby...
And I certainly don't want anyone to be quiet about it. It might give me some motivation to lose it if someone insulted me about it.

The colour of your skin does not adversely affect your physical health.
The faith you believe in does not generally affect your physical health.
Being fat does, in multiple ways. Being fat is bad and that's scientific fact.
